Black Gothic spikes crown the steel mesh screen that encloses the stairway, denying any grip along its top edge. Behind the screen, the metal stairs remain fully usable and in plain view, so nothing about daily access changes. Seen on the oblique, the installation reads as little more than a thin shadow line tracing the top of the boundary. That restraint is intentional: from the sidewalk it nearly disappears into the architecture, preserving the building's clean lines. Up close, the very same line delivers an unmistakable "no entry" message.
